Starting salary £34,431pa with progression to £37,464pa through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance)

37 hours per week (5 days out of 7 including some Saturdays on a rota)

We are looking for a Bereavement Officer to join our dedicated team, providing compassionate and professional services to our local communities.

Your dedication to delivering the highest standards of customer care will be vital, ensuring families can place their trust in you during some of life’s most difficult moments. We are looking for someone who takes pride in presenting themselves with professionalism and who can respond sensitively to the needs of our diverse communities.

As a valued member of our team, you will play an important role across all areas of the Bereavement Service, including:

Chapel Duties – Welcoming families and Funeral Directors, ensuring services are conducted with dignity and run seamlessly.
Cremation – Undertaking full training and working towards an accredited FBCA qualification, participating in the complete cremation process and the respectful management of ashes.
Administration – Managing bookings for burials and cremations, verifying documentation, maintaining accurate records, and supporting families with enquiries.
Contract Management – Overseeing contractors to ensure cemeteries are maintained to our service standards, including grounds care, site cleaning, and grave preparation.

You will be based at our award-winning Oak Hill Lawn Cemetery & Crematorium five days per week (including some Saturdays on a rota basis), with travel required to cemeteries and other council offices and sites across the borough.

You will have a UK full driving license.

The ability to converse with ease with members of the public and to provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for this post.
